TREE OF THE WEEK

We are pleased to launch our new Tree of the Week feature. We hope it inspires all of us to observe more closely our natural environment; perhaps it may even lead to greater protection for our local trees and respect for the vital part they play in sustaining life.

Our first Tree of the Week is nominated by keen walker Peter Whiteoak, who has been treading the local footpaths all his life and knows our countryside as well as anyone.

I have always thought that this oak tree is the most magnificent tree in Silsden” says Peter. “In full leaf, it has such a remarkable shape and spread. It’s a really unmissable sight every year, and in all seasons.”

This wonderful oak tree grows in the field adjoining the site of the new school, between Banklands and Middleway. This photograph of it was taken from Hawber Lane.
